brainstorming
Spent time observing other works and referencing images from shows or animations. Original plan was to contrast light from a lamp post with dark of night. From the original brainstorming, I branched off into the idea of shadows in the light which in turn led me to think of using shadows to represent the past.

location scouting
Spent time looking at places nearby to shoot the photo. Tried to correlate the idea of remembering the past with the location. Decided on a nearby elementary school basketball court. Basketball hoop pole could be used to position the model, while the backdrop of the school could be used to position the shadows to create a scene, all while playing into the theme of past.

photoshoot
After signing the model release form, the model was positioned on the first day of shooting during the day at the basketball court. Model stood on the left side of the shot in a conversational position for one still before moving over a small distance, still in conversation, for the next still. The next night, the model was positioned against the pole of the basketball hoop with a flashlight to provide ample light and to give a way for shadows to be there. Model was photographed in a reminiscent position to play into the narrative.

photoshop
The final composition consisted of colour correcting the night photos to ensure they looked their best for the harsher light conditions, as well as combining the three stills. For the two-day shots, model was carefully selected using the pen tool and extracted as a separate layer. The model was then blacked out and blurred to create a silhouette/shadow look. The silhouette was then placed into position in the night shot and blended into the backdrop.
